# Custom-domain Storybook

Preview: not generally available yet.

Prepare a dedicated domain for saved Storybook builds when publishing becomes available.

## Separate from Open Storybook
You can inspect a retained build with Open Storybook without configuring your own domain. Custom-domain publishing is an additional preview workflow and is not generally available.

## Set up a domain
When enabled, an owner or admin opens **Company settings → Hosted Storybook** and enters a dedicated subdomain such as `storybook.example.com`.

The app supplies the exact DNS values:

| Record | Purpose |
| --- | --- |
| TXT ownership record | Proves you control the chosen subdomain. |
| Wildcard CNAME | Routes the individual build addresses. |
| Certificate CNAME | Validates and renews HTTPS. Appears after ownership is found. |

Copy the app's values exactly. Do not invent a certificate hostname or copy another company's records. On Cloudflare, CNAMEs must be DNS only. Keep the certificate record for renewal; if you use CAA restrictions, follow the app's certificate-authority guidance.

## Wait for verification
The app checks DNS and certificate status. Propagation and certificate issuance can take time. Requests expire if verification does not complete within the stated window. Correct the records and restart the request if needed.

## Keep the subdomain separate
Your Storybook runs your own code. Choose a dedicated subdomain and consider cookies set on the parent domain. The same expiring-link rules apply: authorised members create links, but anyone holding a link can use it during its lifetime.
